Canyon lights glamorize Capilano Suspension Bridge

Capilano Suspension Bridge Park launched its popular Canyon Lights on November 30th with a festive evening of hot chocolate, baked goods, live music and crafts. And, of course, thousands of lights beautifully adorning the suspension bridge, the treetop adventure, CLIFFWALK and the surrounding rainforest.

New this year is the “world’s tallest, living Christmas tree”, a 250-year-old Douglas fir that looms over the park at an incredible 152 feet. I did not post any photos because it’s far more exciting to see it for yourself. Why ruin that sense of discovery for you?

Gingerbread cookie decorating, a scavenger hunt and Christmas carols keep the younger guests stimulated and complete the holiday experience. There are also glass blowing workshops led by Malcolm MacFadyen for the older guests.

Since Canyon Lights is a family-friendly attraction, there are often dozens (if not hundreds) of “youngins” in the park at any given time. So, take this as a forewarning if you are seeking a romantic evening out on the town and are opposed to having a lot of children around. It was overwhelming for me simply because I wasn’t expecting it to be the case later in the evening. All that aside, it’s a great way to get in the holiday spirit with your loved ones or by yourself. It’s accessible, affordable for locals ($32 for an adult annual pass) and unlike anything you have probably seen.

Don’t have access to a vehicle? Capilano operates a free round-trip shuttle service from Canada Place.

Canyon Lights runs Saturday, November 30, 2013 through to Saturday, January 4, 2014 (except Christmas Day when the park is closed). Park hours are 11:00am – 9:00pm. Canyon Lights tickets are valid all day with holiday activities beginning at 4:00pm. Partial proceeds from the admission price to Canyon Lights is donated to the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund.
