But what’s really in that martini glass?

Sitting out on my balcony day after day I write articles, tweet, go on facebook, eat, drink and dream. Almost every morning I wake up, set my laptops up (PC on my left, MAC on my right) then disappear back in to my apartment. Maybe Simon (my roommate) is awake, and I’ll say good morning while grabbing coffee, but most of the time he’s still asleep. Until…I fire up the magic bullet. No, not the kind you may use in the bedroom, the kind you use in the kitchen. Wait…do people do that too? You know which one I mean. Anyhow, it’s what goes in the blender and in to my martini or wine glass that counts. Within the last few months — even though it’s been chilly — I have been craving smoothies first thing in the morning. This comes before I load up on my other addiction, hearty bread with natural peanut butter, banana and cinnamon, or an easy over egg atop aged cheddar and fresh basil.

Sometimes my smoothies are pretty standard, consisting of mixed berries, strawberry banana or just plain strawberry (as shown below). At other times I’m feeling creative and throw everything under the sun in to that little magic bullet. Some ingredients I’ve used are apples, oranges, mango, peanut butter, chocolate protein powder, ground espresso, kale, hemp seed, almonds, Supergreen, and Raw Power! I rarely use a recipe and feel that the best thing to do is trust your taste buds and “do what feels right” that day. If it works, fantastic, if it doesn’t, there’s always tomorrow.

Check out my smoothie addiction page for pics of other smoothies I’ve made. Also, if you’ve got some crazy (or just delicious) smoothies that you make I’d love to hear about them! Leave me a comment 🙂
